Winter Update 2025: Easy Read

Hello everyone!

We’ve had a busy six months since our summer update. Here’s what we’ve been up to.

The research itself:

We have completed over 300 interviews. We will be halfway through our data collection by May next year.

We’ve published:

A paper on the experiences of menopause for Autistic people. Find a free version to read here.

And the following articles on The Conversation:

Why menopause may be even tougher for autistic people – and what needs to change, available here.

Why some autistic people don’t speak, available here.

Why it’s time to rethink the notion of an autism ‘spectrum’, available here.

Why dating can be tough for autistic people – and what may make it easier, available here.

Public Engagement:

  • Becky and Harriet presented on our work on menstruation and puberty at Autism Europe in Dublin.

  • We have a recording from our first live event on Autism and the menopause, led by Aimee Grant available here on our YouTube channel.

  • We also have recordings from our second live event: Autism and maternity: information for parents and supporters. Available as part of this playlist.

Social Media:

Over the last year, we’ve been posting across our social media platforms, on Fridays, with Autism-friendly information about reproductive health and our research.

Aimee made a website to show all of her work, available here.

Aimee and some of our Community Council members can be heard speaking about the project on episode 2 season 3 of the Wellcome Trust’s podcast “When Science Finds a Way.” Links to listen available here.

We also have our:

Website: www.autismmenstruationtomenopause.com

And Youtube channel: @AutismMenstruationToMenopause

We also keep our Linktree updated, available here.

Coming up:

  • We’ll interview the same participants again and start looking at some of the data we’ve already collected.

  • We’ll be working on future publications about Autistic puberty, data sharing in Autism research, and period products.

We’ll be sharing it all on our social media :)

Best wishes,

Aimee, Becky, Harriet, Krysia, Ami and the whole Autism Menstruation to Menopause team
